The brief from the first consultation with the customer was to have the kitchen as the focal point of the home – a minimalist kitchen with clean lines, modern finishes and susceptible to a young growing family. The customer was also looking for technology via a computer or similar in this project as they loved the idea of being able to access the internet for recipes, online food shopping and other daily activities. From this initial brief we gave the customer a list of websites, and magazines to look at.

In mid April, Michael and Darren Farquhar travelled to Milan to visit the world famous Eurocucina Furniture Fair, held every 2 years. Fortunately both Michael and Darren were able to spend 2 full days at the fair before the Iceland volcanic airline dramas unfolded which prevented many people from other parts of the world attending the fair later in the week.

Michael had visited this fair on 3 previous occasions but explains that this far was by far the largest it has ever been, best quality displays every produced and most relevant to the Aussie kitchen industry.

    Sailing Boat Kitchen

At the Eurocucina Fair, there are over 100 kitchen companies displaying products, many with more than 8 full kitchens on display plus entertainment & selection areas. European kitchen companies spend what appears to be millions of dollars on displaying the latest and greatest in an attempt to woo new distributors and revitalise what has been a very ordinary GFC effected European kitchen industry in the recent 12 to 18 months. Many display areas rival the size of the largest kitchen showrooms in Australia, full of kitchens that can only be described as simply breathtaking. Amongst the more contemporary designs are often some pretty “out-there” concept kitchens, such as the kitchen that has drawn heavy inspiration from that of a sailing boat (see above).

Miller-BW-WebAs a new initiative for 2010, we’ll be featuring some our recently completed kitchens to highlight the various aspects of our work.

This month we have a new kitchen designed by Daniel D’Angelo, in conjunction with the client.

This stunning feature kitchen is truly an entertainer’s delight, once family & friends see this master piece they will not be able to stop talking about it. The PVC Gold & Caribbean White Gloss Door finishes look fantastic with the reflection from the natural light that the large fixed windows let in. The 40mm Silestone “Negro Stellar” bench tops cast an imposing presence with colour & depth.

The 55mm Box Ali Frost Doors with Polar White Insert provide a sleek & handle-less finish blending in with Stainless Steel laminate shadowline & kickers. Not a detail has been missed with numerous pot drawers featuring the Blumotion soft closing drawer system.

No expense has been spared with 2 door fridge freezer, induction cook top, pyrolytic oven, integrated dishwasher, undermount range hood & sinks. To the side of the kitchen there is also a large walk in larder fitted with open shelf floor & overhead cabinets so the feature kitchen can always look immaculate. This is a seriously stylish kitchen that any world class chef would be proud to have in their own home.

During a recent reshuffle, we came across some of our old marketing material that had been stored away. We thought might be an interesting news post to take a look back and share with you a little slice of our company history.

Below is a couple scans of an old Kitchens By Farquhar brochure circa 1980’s. As you’ll notice, the styles and trends have come a huge way since then, and along the way we’ve grown in size, improved our methods and evolved to where we are today.

Kitchen By Farquhar - 1980's Brochure (Front) Kitchen By Farquhar - 1980's Brochure (Back)

Since this brochure ran, we’ve built a brand new manufacturing facility that simply dwarfs the factory shown on the back page of this brochure, as well as completely renovating our showroom and updating our logo.

One other thing you might notice is the younger Michael, Pete and Cathy Farquhar :)

Throughout 2009, we were proud to throw our support behind a very worthy cause – Cara (Community Accommodation and Respite Agency). cara_logo

Cara is a provider of innovative support services for individuals with disabilities and their families, by the South Australian community.

To assist families in the south-western suburbs of Adelaide, a Children’s Respite was proposed for Weroona Avenue in Parkholme. The project was backed generously by Westfield as well as a host of Adelaide retailer’s and contractor’s.

Kitchens By Farquhar, in conjunction with the Kidman Park Rotary Club, were able to donate the kitchen and cabinetry for the project. Trevor Williams, a senior designer at Kitchens By Farquhar, worked alongside the builders and Cara staff to ensure that every need was met. Accessibility was of extreme importance throughout the design process.
The renovation of the Westfield respite house was completed in the latter stages of 2009 and the grand opening was held on Thursday 3 December 2009, International Day of People with Disability.
